A pastor took the word ‘discipline’ to the extreme as he meted out severe punishment on his children
A middle aged pastor, Peter Etim, in charge of a Pentecostal church in in Ile‑Oluji area of Ondo State has been arrested for child abuse.According to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, Pastor Etim inflicted serious injuries on the bodies of his two boys, 10-year-old Elijah and 8-year-old Hope.
The boys had allegedly stole the sum of N180 and sold some wares in his shop on credit without permission.
The pastor who was paraded by the NSCDC in Akure said his children’s action caused him to lose his temper.
Speaking with newsmen, the NSCDC image maker, Kayode Balogun said parents and guardians should be careful with the way they treat their children because the young ones have their rights too and need to be protected under the Child Rights Act of Ondo State and the federation.
Mr. Balogun also said that after proper investigation, the suspect with his two children will be handed over to Child Rights Department of the Ministry of Women Affairs, Ondo State for prosecution in line with the Child Rights Act of the state.
